Nestled within a lush, tree-lined parcel of land, Soil & Sea is a mixed-use building that primarily serves the learners of The Learning Community at Quest while also accommodating workshops, events and community gatherings. The design is defined by load-bearing exposed brick walls on random rubble foundation and a dominant barrel vault that rises above the canopy, making it visible from every corner of the site.
The barrel vault forms the central gathering space, complemented by granite stone pillars, built-in seating and rubble masonry edging the L-shaped veranda. The structure incorporates a filler slab with porotherm bricks as fillers for the flat roofs, while doors, windows and Mangalore tiles have been locally sourced and repurposed.
Built with materials largely retained in their raw form, the building provides a setting for learning, making, exchange and community engagement. Accessibility is integral to the design, with ramps ensuring inclusive access throughout. Soil & Sea blends these functions within an architectural expression that sits comfortably within its natural surroundings.
