Set along Chennai’s expanding industrial corridor, Thoranam is a striking wedding venue that brings together contemporary architectural lines and traditional South Indian material sensibilities.
The building draws inspiration from the traditional thoranam, a traditional decorative hanging reinterpreting its patterns through laterite, terracotta, wood, and concrete jaalis. These materials come together to form a language that feels familiar yet contemporary. A carefully choreographed arrival leads to a grand lobby, followed by more restrained spaces designed for celebration and gathering.
During the sunrise shoot, mist softened the surroundings and created an atmospheric backdrop for the architecture. As the day progressed, sunlight moved across the concrete cylinders and panels designed by Facilini Design Lab, casting changing patterns of light and shadow throughout the space.
The photography focused primarily on these shifting relationships between form, light, shadow, and material.
